A Ghostly Footballer

It was date night, and my wonderful husband took me to a place called the Fox & Farrow in Hermosa Beach. He knew I liked 1940s art deco and the warmth of a speakeasy. As soon as I got off those stairs, I began to feel one of those incredibly hard-to-describe vibes. It was not a malicious or harmful energy hanging in the air. Just the odd feeling that something was hanging out with the rest of us. This led me, just as our cocktails arrived, to ask the waitress if the place was haunted, to which she replied with “How did you know?”

George Best aka The Fifth Beatle

On May 22, 1946, George Best was born in Belfast. This Northern Irishman started his outstanding career at the age of 15 with Manchester United. He was referred to as the “Fifth Beatle” and played internationally with multiple teams in Australia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. However, he was troubled by the beast that is alcoholism. He retired from football, also known as soccer in the United States, in 1983. He died in 2005 despite having a liver transplant a few years before in 2003.

(There is much more about his career that you can find online through YouTube and other sources. I only gave some basic background. To be perfectly honest, I don’t fully understand the uniqueness of his career because I am the furthest from a Footballer efficianto.)

Bestie’s Bar and Restaurant

(Blair, 2008)

At some point in the 1970s, George Best decided to open his own bar in Hermosa Beach. The location is still open, though it is now known as The Underground and it shares the same kitchen as Fox & Farrow. He named it Bestie’s and allegedly loved Hermosa Beach because it reminded him of a place in Spain where he was able to escape the press (AS, n.d.). His mischiverious spirit still seems to be hanging out at this old haunt.

The Dumpster

There was one night, somewhere around 3am, where the dumpster in the parking lot suddenly moved. The thing is, this dumpster, is in a parking lot that is on a hill. So, as a result, the asphalt has been carved out to keep it from sliding away. It was caught on a camera.

Reflections & Shadows

There is at times the feeling of being not alone, then you look up, and there is the shoulette of a man in the mirror or window looking back at you. Sometimes this shadow shoulette is seen near the pool tables at The Underground. Apparently, he likes to play jokes on people.

Flying Wine Glasses

Apparently, AI has difficulty making wine glasses that look normal.

Glasses, not just wine glasses, have been known to suddenly go flying off of the bar counter at both The Underground and Fox & Farrow. Sometimes a staff member will be on the other side of the bar or room when one of these just goes flying. It seems like George just wants to keep them on their toes. He allegedly loved a glass of white wine for breakfast.

It should be noted that the stories about flying glasses, dumpster, and shoulettes have been told to me during various visits I have made. Also that some staff members had no idea what I was talking about either because they were new or did not believe in such things.
